First published in 1996 Discovering Birmingham is a high impact and concise introduction and travel guide to the modern city for visitors and locals alike. It has sold around 50,000 copies to the public as well as special editions being produced for conferences.

Text: We discover the history and background of Birmingham. We see how it started from a market hamlet and grew as it gained expertise in manufacturing, in particular in the use of metal as a raw material. We look at Digbeth. We showcase the artistic side of today’s city and understand how it is moving ahead into the future. We give lots of ideas for things to experience in the city. Photos: Around 200 full colour photos of modern Birmingham by city photographer Jonathan Berg. City Centre Map: The guide contains a fold-out city centre map and lots of ideas for things to see and do.

Discovering Birmingham is published by Birmingham Picture Library, a publishing house run by Jonathan and Barbara Berg from their home in Olton. It will be their 13 th imprint since the 1 st edition of Positively Birmingham was published in September 1994.
